CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY, @UGA
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do we Perform?
In previous years, we have performed at St Gregory the Great Episocpal Church in Athens, GA. It is the perfect fit for our club with its large chapel and reception space.
I have never played an instrument before, could I join CMS?
We require that applicants are able to read sheet music so that they can play pieces with their small chamber ensemble. We recommend checking out the UGA Community Music School if you are interested in learning an instrument for the first time and taking lessons!
I'm very busy this semester, can I still be in CMS?
We understand that each member of CMS is a full time student and juggles many assignments, exams, and personal hobbies. This is why CMS allows its ensembles the flexibility to create their own practice schedules. That said, it is extremely important to communicate your availability to your group and proactively schedule rehearsals.
What are the Costs?
There is a $10 membership fee to join CMS. This fee primarily goes towards food and our masterclass instructors.
How much time does it take?
We recommend weekly rehearsals with your ensemble. Other than rehearsals, there is a required mid semester masterclass that lasts 2 hours and an end of semester recital.
Will there be Instruction Given?
Yes, we offer instructors. There will be a required mid-semester masterclass taught by UGA graduate students. Additionally, board members will be available to advise ensembles are provide coaching contacts if students desire additional feedback!
